POLICIES & PROCEDURES

HGMS Media Center Policies and Procedures: Revised May 5, 2025
Checkout

  • Students will visit the library regularly to check out books with either their ELA class or Social Studies class on a predetermined schedule.
  • Students may check out two books at a time. Additional materials for school work are allowed.
  • Faculty and staff may enjoy unlimited access to library materials.
  • If a student has one or more overdue books, they may still check one additional library books to meet their maximum of two books.
  • Open checkout is available 8:45 am - 3:30 pm daily.
  • Students are asked to bring a Teacher Pass when coming to the library outside of a class visit and sign in at the Circulation Desk.
  • Students have access to eBooks and Playaways, which can be found in ClassLink - Destiny tab.

Overdue, lost, or damaged books:

  • There are not fines for overdue library books.
  • Funds to replace lost books must be received by the end of the school year.
  • Since library books have a special binding and library processing, we cannot accept store-bought books as replacements.
  • We can only accept payment in the form of cash and receipts will be issued.
  • Damaged books will be repaired if possible. If, however, the book has gotten wet, sticky, ripped, chewed, or is otherwise damaged so that repair is not possible, the student will be asked to pay to replace the book.

    Book Challenges
  • If a member of the faculty, staff, and/or parent community feels that the content of a book is controversial, questionable, or inappropriate, they are welcome to submit a "Request for reevaluating media maters" form from Richland One School District.
  • A committee at the district level will review the books(s) and discuss. This committee will then make the final decision with the option to send to the State Dept. of Education for review.

Printing in the Library

  • Students must email documents they need printed. Only items for classes will be printed.
